CBCC Bonus Episode 5: The Stephen King Roadtrip
Tuesday Jul 02, 2019
Tuesday Jul 02, 2019
Happy 10th Anniversary!! Brad & Lisa celebrated ten years of ghoulish wedded bliss by hitting the road @ traveling north. Why? They wanted to reconnect with nature. Stephen King's nature. Brad & Lisa traveled to Bangor, ME, and saw all the sights they've read about in books like "It," "'Salem's Lot,'" & "Cujo." This bonus episode was recorded from the road & they dish on all the gorgeous selfies they snapped along the way. Also, they dig a little bit into the classic graphic novel adaptation of "Creepshow" from Michelle Wrightson & Bernie Wrightson. Has a better comic book adaptation ever been? No.
Next week, we'll return to our regularly scheduled program (& audio quality), to kickstart our new series on Peter Parker & Mary Jane Watson. Be sure to follow along with the podcast on Instagram & Twitter @CBCCPodcast, & follow the hosts @MouthDork & @sidewalksiren.

CBCC 24: Arthur & Mera - Sea of Storms
Sunday Jun 23, 2019
Sunday Jun 23, 2019
This week, we close out our conversation regarding Arthur & Mera by jumping back to The New 52 with "Aquaman: Sea of Storms" written by Jeff Parker & illustrated by Paul Pelletier & friends. We find our royal couple in a period of transition, still reeling from the catastrophic events placed on them by Geoff Johns. Parker brings Aquaman back to basics, pitting the Atlantian against krackens, Hercules, high school reunions, and Swamp Thing. Arthur & Mera's relationship continues to be a push & pull between the land & the sea. Using Dr. Sue Johnson's "Love Sense" as our guide, we finally determine whether or not this couple should remain together. And yes, we talk a little about the recent revelatory events that have occurred under the stewardship of Kelly Sue DeConnick.

Unfortunately, Black Manta is waiting in the wings, and he's going to destroy Aquaman's heart by slaying his new fiancee. As we begin to wind down our conversation surrounding monogamy and it's future in the life of our royal couple, Brad & Lisa tear into their romantic plight using "Aquaman Vol 1: The Drowning" and Dr. Sue Johnson's "Love Sense" as their guide. Is Arthur & Mera's relationship doomed to a fishy aroma, or will they find true happiness under the sea? Brad & Lisa think they're getting close to answering that question.

"How's it feel to be nobody's favorite super-hero?" As part of the DC Comics New 52 relaunch, the superstar comic book team of Geoff Johns & Ivan Reis attempt to explain the appeal of Aquaman to a world of haters. Arthur may have a lot to prove, but his lady love Mera needs none of surface-lover's adulations. In our second episode exploring the strong bond between Atlantis' ultimate power couple, we continue to dissect how parental attachment haunts their relationship, and we're using Dr. Sue Johnson's "Love Sense" as our scalpel.

CBCC 21: Arthur & Mera - Mera: Tidebreaker
Tuesday May 21, 2019
Tuesday May 21, 2019
"When we come out of the shadows, does the darkness stay with us?" We launch our new series on Arthur Curry and Mera by diving into the original graphic novel, "Mera: Tidebreaker." Written by Danielle Paige and illustrated by Stephen Byrne, this young adult adventure kicks off a new series of DC Ink titles geared to score teen readers. Brad & Lisa discuss how these characters fare in the footsteps of "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games," and how this angsty insight alters the perception of superheroes Aquaman & Mera.
As always, we have a trusty relationship guru to guide us through the plight of our lovers. This month we're using "Love Sense" from author Dr. Sue Johnson and contemplating attachment theory's effect on romance. Are we ever free from the generations that came before? Probably not.

CBCC 20: Thanos & Death - Thanos Wins
Sunday May 12, 2019
Sunday May 12, 2019
"Ask the most powerful beings how the universe will end, and they will answer with two words: Thanos Wins." We conclude our discussion surrounding the Mad Titan Thanos & his lovely Mistress Death by devouring the time-traveling apocalyptic horror "Thanos Wins" written by Donny Cates, illustrated by Geoff Shaw, & colored by Antonio Fabela. Wallowing in the dark psychology of two cosmic monsters was a unique endeavor, but thankfully we had Brene Brown's "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead" as our guide.
While we are sad to say goodbye to these waring lovers, we're also excited to remove ourselves from their painful, mad attraction as well. The conversation was rich and challenging. We are most likely never to encounter a romance quite like this one again.

CBCC 19: Thanos & Death - Deadpool vs Thanos
Sunday May 05, 2019
Sunday May 05, 2019
No. This is not a joke. Marvel Comics finally pits the two maddest forces in their Universe against each other - "Deadpool vs Thanos." Forced into battle against each when their beloved Mistress Death disappears from the fabric of Eternity. With the fate of everything resting in their hands, can two of the greatest comic book rip-off characters come to a meeting of the minds? Or are we all screwed?
Brad & Lisa continue their exploration of the romantic plight plaguing Thanos & Death using Brene Brown's "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead." as their relationship guide. Somehow, this conversation actually results in one of their longest and most penetrating discussions. Our favorite couple starts as a couple of Wade Wilson haters and finds themselves swooning for the Merc With A Mouth.
